چکیده

The development of large-scale case-based reasoning systems has increased the necessity of providing tools for analyzing the case base structure. In this paper we present a hierarchical competence model approach based on the solution qualities. Using this hierarchical approach we propose a new method for visualizing case base competence and understanding the way a CBR system behaves in different parts of the problem space. The visualization method has been used in the TempoExpress system, a CBR system for applying expressivity-aware tempo transformations to recordings of musical performances.

How Does Your Case-Base Grow?

1 Introduction Case-based reasoning (CBR) systems solve problems by reusing the solutions to similar problems stored as cases in a case base [1]. Recent research has looked at the competence of case-bases and, in particular, ways of measuring and predicting this competence. To date, a number of effective competence models have been proposed [3,6,8]. This paper investigates the evolution of comp...

Follow the Experts: Intercultural Competence as Knowing-in-Practice

This chapter explores individual intercultural competence as an enacted capability developed through social interaction and experience with dominant local cultures and minority cultures. The authors employ a knowing-as-practice perspective, following Nicolini et al. (2003), and notions of tacit knowledge within particular domains (Sternberg et al., 1995), to suggest that the study of intercultu...

Remembering to Add: Competence-preserving Case-Addition Policies for Case Base Maintenance

Case base maintenance is gaining increasing recognition in research and the practical ap plications of case based reasoning CBR This intense interest is highlighted by Smyth and Keane s research on case deletion policies In their work Smyth and Keane advocated a case deletion policy whereby the cases in a case base are classi ed and deleted based on their cover age potential and adaptation powe...

Using Fuzzy Integral to Model Case-Base Competence

Modeling case-base competence is a crucial issue in the field of CBR. In fact it has led to a number of important developments in CBR recently, the most well known being in case deletion and case-base visualization and authoring support. This is highlighted by Smyth and Keane’s competence model (called the S-K model in this paper), which was shown to be efficient. In this paper, we argue that t...

Modeling Competence for Case Based Reasoning Systems Using Clustering

The success of the Case Based Reasoning (CBR) system depends on the quality of the case data. This quality is dedicated to the study of the case base competence which is measured by the range of problems that can be satisfactorily solved. In fact, modeling case-base competence is a clamorous issue in the discipline of CBR. However, the existence of erroneous cases as noises and the non uniform ...
